Janet began skating in 1976 with her sister at Toombul Ice Rink.

She was obviously hooked and went on to be one of only two people in Australia to have competed in all three disciplines of Figure Skating, Short Track Ice Racing and Ice Hockey at each of their respective National Championships - competing at 15 National Championships over a 17 year period across 3 disciplines.

If there’s anything to do with skating, Janet has generally tried it, taught it, competed in it, judged it or more recently, called it.

During her Figure Skating competitive career, Janet commenced Trial Judging at 16 and went on to Judging at Australian National Championships before turning professional and skating in an ice show in Malaysia at 20.

She then commenced her Short Track Ice Racing career, and during that time was also teaching Figure Skating and Adult Synchronized Skating until she wound down these commitments to concentrate on her path to the Olympic Games.

She now uses her high level of previous skating ability in the area of being an Internationally Qualified Technical Specialist for figure skating, and thoroughly enjoys “giving back” to the sport that has been a part of her life for the last 32 years.

Janet understands only too well the demands of elite level skating. Although not a competitor in figure skating internationally, Janet competed at World Championship and Olympic level in Short Track Ice Racing.

She feels although the techniques are different, athletically, it is all about drive, motivation to succeed, goal setting, mind over matter and the extreme desire achieve things that only a small handful of people ever will.

Her career highlights include:

Gold Medal Test Level in Figures (only a handful of people within Australia to have ever achieved this level)
5 x Australian National Championships as a competitor in Novice, Junior and Senior Ladies
8 x Australian National Championships in Short Track Ice Racing
2 x Australian National Championships in Women’s Ice Hockey
